2010 Camaro Fest Wrap-Up

The MTI Camaro Fest was a blast!

mti camaro fest
New 5th Gen Camaros from all over the country attended the annual event at Little Talladega Grand Prix Raceway. Nestled among the farmlands of Eastern Alabama, the 1.4 mile road course provided excitement and adrenalin for participants to run their American musclecars in a safe, casual setting. Ahhhh, the sound of horsepower in the morning makes for a great day!

Camaro drivers enjoyed an asphalt buffet of track driving all day long. Some drivers had to refuel several times before the day was done. MTI Racing also provided pace cars, a driving brochure and a couple of instructors to ride along with novices, to help them improve their driving skills. MTI Racing owner Reese Cox gave ride-a-longs in the 700hp Magnacharger Camaro as well as the Corvette Racecar. By the end of the day, most drivers improved their speeds and have the skills to become better drivers at home.

In the afternoon, a suspicious character called "the Stag" appeared to challenge anyone who dares to beat his laptimes. The Stag is a "Man-in-Black" villain, possessing illustrious driving talents, who can wring Formula 1 laptimes from a Yugo. He doesn't speak, he lets his driving do the talking. The Stag posted a laptime of 1:05.7 in the MTI Camaro. Then a battle ensued to knock the Stag off the leaderboard. The most valiant effort was given by Gary Pruyne in his Supercharged Camaro at 1:09. Worthy of recognition, but the Stag still reigns supreme.

Kooks Custom Headers sponsored a $250 Gift Certificate to be give away in a random drawing. After the collection box was shaken, and the winning ticket pulled, the Kooks Custom Headers Gift Certificate was awarded to Mike (Michael's Maro) Rafanan. Since he already has headers on his Camaro, Michael is going to install Kooks Headers on his Escalade SUV.

In the end, all Camaro drivers, spouses, and children had a great time at the MTI Racing Camaro Fest. It was a trackday extravaganza for most, and a glorious sunny day of relaxation for others. Either way, we look back on each moment of the day and laugh at the fun times with good friends. We look forward to doing the event again next year.

Thanks for the memories!

MTI Builds Fastest Corvette At Texas Mile

Sunday morning 10/24/2010, MTI Racing set a new Corvette Record at Texas Mile.
Official speed was 216.2 mph

TXMikepic2

The record is for the Fastest Corvette of all time at the Texas Mile.

On Saturday, new records were set during practice runs at 213 mph. They were countered by another Corvette, but then the next morning the MTI Racing Z06 blasted from zero to 1 mile at 216.2 2mph.

Reese Cox of MTI Racing holds the N/A Corvette record at 206mph.

mtiracing

On Sunday, October 24th, Mike H. (MTI Racing customer) raised the all-out Corvette record to 216.2mph.

Mike is a humble businessman and dock contractor from Savannah, Georgia. His car is ALL STREET. (full interior, no gutting, no weight savings, pump gas)
The 2007 Z06 is powered by 500ci MTI Racing engine using the RHS block and
Corvette Magnacharger MP2300 Supercharger. It puts down approx 890 RWHP. We also did some modifications to the transmission and differential to change the gearing and deliver more power to the wheels. Of course, I cannot disclose at this time exactly what the ratios are because that would be advertising our mathematics of going fast. Forgeline wheels add a sinister look to the car with Mickey Thompson drag radials on the rear.

Congratulations to Mike for piloting the fastest Corvette ever to brave the Texas Mile.

Nice work Mike!

shifterForgeline GA3R After over 20 years of involvement with teams of virtually every sports car racing organization in the world, we have learned what it takes to produce a racing wheel that can withstand the fierce conditions of the sport. This knowledge has been applied to our latest and greatest, simply put - the best wheel we have ever made - the GA3R. Our new "I-Beamed Spoke" technology reduces weight and applies additional strength in rigidity within the spokes of the wheel. The hidden titanium assembly hardware not only gives it a smooth clean look, but also functions to ease the efforts of cleaning the wheel. In addition, the GA3R features an enlarged open center area for quick and easy lug nut removal, critical for quick pit stops. Another feature of the GA3R is the design of the center allows plenty of room for caliper clearance for that extreme brake fitment. We have also employed a new, proprietary, fast drying, super strength sealer for quick and easy repairs as well as it being highly resistant to leaks. And of course, the GA3R is produced using our traditional forging method utilizing 6061-T6 aluminum with heat-treated rim-shells. Just like any FORGELINE wheel, the GA3R will be fully customizable in fitment and finish, including center-lock applications. Click HERE to read More.

Corvette Short Throw Shifter

MTI RACING SIX SHOOTER CORVETTE SHIFTER

Fits C6 and C6 Z06 Corvette

This Corvette short throw shifter is specifically engineered to deliver a shorter throw without added effort. For many, one drawback of other shifters is difficulty entering certain gears. Our MTI Racing Six Shooter design does not rely on bias springs and therefore minimizes the effort to enter reverse or the 5-6 gate. Rather than adding unnecessary resistance we focus on synergy with the transmission. It is the culmination of a relentless search for a Corvette shifter that would overcome the drawbacks we have witnessed in other shifters.

In designing this Corvette short shifter we started from scratch, re-examining the material selection for every component and how each piece interfaces in the assembly. It is the only Corvette short shifter that fits exactly like stock, including a tight seal around the factory closeout boot without modification. Also unlike any other aftermarket shifter, our new shifter has an integral dust boot over the shifter mechanism; it's not an afterthought or complete omission like most.

2010 Power Tour Wrap Up

HRPTBlogTopImage

It was a long scorching week on the 2010 Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour, but we would do it again at a moment's notice. With give or take 4,500 participants and thousands of spectators at each stop, every car enthusiast was in good company. There is no place like the Power Tour to find so many die hard car lovers. The participants varied from those driving their grocery go getter Buick Roadmasters to million dollar museum quality street rods.

MTI Racing was lucky enough to run the Power Tour alongside Jerry Magnuson and his team from Magnuson Products, maker of Magna Charger supercharger kits. MTI's Magna Charger equipped 750hp 2010 Camaro spent the week sitting in the Magnuson booth along side Jerry's famous custom 32 roadster, dubbed Magnitude. Jerry's roadster would most likely get the award for most expensive car on the tour. With eight years of work from Jerry and Chip Foose, the roadster came in well over the one million dollar mark. It takes a true car guy or girl (Maureen Magnuson) to take a priceless hot rod with less than 20 miles on the clock on a cross country road trip.

The big highlight for everyone at MTI was meeting all the enthusiastic drivers that we ran into on the road and everyone who stopped by the Magnuson booth. We met drivers of all sorts, but we were especially surprised at the overwhelming amount of new Camaros, C5 Corvettes, and C6 Corvettes.

Below is a compilation of our favorite Power Tour Twitter, Flickr and Facebook posts during the week, enjoy:

3 Holden VE Ute's (red, white, and blue) were shipped over by our friends down under. The unsubstantiated rumor going around was that each car took 3 months to get through customs and cost $10,000 to bring over. Could've been an El Camino if GM hadn't killed the project.
